How do you know if you have strep throat infection or just tonsil stones? Do you have to get tonsils removed?I get a lot of sore throats, and my doctor often never checks for strep throat, she just prescribes antibiotics and decides it COULD be strep throat. Well, now she's angry, and says she doesn't want to prescribe any more antibiotics, and that I should get my tonsils out, so I went to an ear/nose/throat doctor who looked at my throat, said my tonsils were small, and that it might not really help if I got my tonsils out, and that it might cause vocal problems. She seemed to think the risks outweighed the benefits, and said I was welcome to get the surgery, but it may not be necessary. My other doctor angrily said that doctor was just trying to protect herself, and I feel confused. Are all these sore throats or white spots on my tonsils strep throat infections, or are they just shed material building up in the tonsil crypts? Does that really require surgery? How do you tell if you have strep throat or just tonsil stones when you've got a doctor that won't do strep tests? Is there any way to tell by looking, or by the symptoms? Should I get the surgery? Will it help? It's so expensive I really don't want to do it... Has anyone else had this problem?

well i think u have to consider wat the ENT doc said.. if operation is not helping why attemptin it ? she is absolutely right when she says u might hav risks of getting a voice problem.. and tats the worst thing tat can happen.. loosing ur voice? u'll have to under go voice therapy n all.. i hope i'm not scaring u ! well if alopathy is not working for ur sore throats why dont u try other disciplines of medicines.. like ayurveda or homeopathy? any way take care!

first did you go to the ENT when your throat was feeling better? I hate to say it before you jump into doing anything, please go to a new dr (family dr) and have him/her test you for strep. You cannot tell if it strep throat or not by just looking. It amy be a viral infection that seems to be recurrent. if you seem to have alot of throat infections/ tonsil issues yes you should have them out. but again thats up to the Drs.
