How can I prevent tonsillitis?

These are useful and collceted by kong!
How can I prevent tonsillitis?I've had it three times in 2009! I've been teaching elementary school for 5 years. I try to load up on vitamin C and wash/sanitize my hands as much as possible. I recently had been under a lot of stress, which I'm sure plays into it. Any other tips on preventing it? It's horrible!
Every doctor I've gone to has been against taking out my tonsils because of my age (late 20s). They said it's worse for adults and even riskier...more chances of bleeding. So that's not an option.
It's always viral. :(

beware of infections..better to do tonsillectomy

Hmm i've had it once but when you do get (which i hope you don't =]) make sure to take antibiotics if it's bacterial. Because it prevents it.

keep a stock of penycillin and at the first hint of it take it.
i had it on and off for 6 months and the only way i fiiiiinally got rid of it was stocking up. and take it for at least a week after the first sign.

- EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS GONE ITS NOTTTTTTT

suck on some of those lozenges that have zinc in them (like cold eze) and see if that helps. you could spray clorasceptic throughout the day but that stuff tastes so nasty. i had my tonsils out at age 21 (see my other answer to your other question) and yes, it was tough but it cured me. i had infected ones all the time two or three times a year from age 16 to age 21.

Have you gone to the hospital?

Maybe you should ask if they have any antibiotics or whatever for it.

Try not to eat rough foods either, like toast when you feel you have it again, it could make it worse.

Try and rest your voice too at times.

Also, maybe drinking cold drinks.

Hope that it gets sorted out soon, must be a pain.
