Can you have white spots on your tonsils and NOT have strep, just a viral throat infection??I have a mild to moderate sore throat for a few days now and noticed small white patches on my tonsil on one side this morn. My sore throat isn't that bad so I'm thinking it's maybe just a viral throat infection. Is it possible to have white patches on your tonsils and just have a sore throat that will go away without antibiotics. I heard strep throat would probably be horribley painful by now and I would KNOW I had it. is that true?? Is it okay to wait and just try to let it resolve on it's own if it's not too painful?

You need to go to the Dr. and get a throat culture. If that's negative then gargle with warm salt water. (You can try that right now) If it is strep you need antibiotics. I went to the Dr. a lot for that and most of the time it was negative. Eventually my tonsils started rotting away and I had to get them removed. gross I know. That surgery was the worst pain of my life.
