Bacterial tonsillitis - white spots on my tonsils now turning dark brown since taking antibiotics? The white pus-filled spots I had on my tonsils that've been causing me so much pain are now starting to produce dark brown patches, after I began a course of antibiotics yesterday. Is this normal? Is it just the bacteria dying?

Yes, that's what's happening. The antibiotics are working. Ain't science grand?

Yes, this is good. The Bacteria is dying. If your condition worsens or persists longer than your prescribed medication, then seek your doctors advice! Feel Better! :-)

Hi D,
As I can only speak from my own experience, about two months ago I suffered from bacterial tonsillitis as well and was put a large dose of antibiotics by my GP and a couple of days later, the pus spots turned dark brown (almost a black colour) and my extremely sore throat dissapeared. It took me about a week to finally feel my old self again. I hope my answer helped you - and get well soon!
