Strep doesn't have anything to do with your tonsils, except that if you have strep, sometimes your tonsils will get inflamed. Strep is often accompanied by a fever and an EXTREMELY sore throat. It's sometimes confused with the flu because of the fever. Your doctor will do a throat culture to determine if you have strep. If you do, they'll put you on antibiotics.

Yes, you can get strep throat if you have had a tonsillectomy. Strep throat is very common. It is treatable and you could have associated symptoms of fever, cough, headache, drainage, aches and pains, etc.

Yes, you can still get it. I have a friend who has had strep seven or eight times and the doc told her to get her tonsils out so she did. That was six months ago, in January she got strep again. It's only serious [not deadly or anything] but it hurts like a you know what if it goes untreated, but I'm sure you're smart enough to go to the doctor if your sore throat gets too sore.
